How Themefy collects, uses, stores and shares information through the Chrome extension.

Introduction

Welcome to Themefy! Your privacy is critically important to us. This Privacy Policy explains how Themefy ("we", "us", "our") collects, uses and protects the information obtained through our Chrome extension. By using Themefy, you agree to the terms of this Privacy Policy.

In short: we hold your account details, your subscription tier, your saved themes and bookmarks, and — only if you turn on the weather widget — an approximate location. We do not track your browsing history, and we never sell your data.

1. Information We Collect

Themefy collects and processes the following:

A. Account Information

When you register or sign in via Google OAuth, powered by Supabase, we store:

  • Your email address
  • Your full name
  • Your profile avatar URL
  • A unique user ID

This information is strictly used to manage your account, identify your subscription tier (free vs. premium/lifetime), sync your saved favorite themes and custom bookmarks across sessions, and process subscription upgrades.

B. Location Data

When the Weather widget is enabled, the extension uses your IP address (via the third-party API `ipwho.is`) to approximate your geographic location (city, latitude, longitude). This location data is sent to OpenWeatherMap solely to fetch current local weather conditions and air quality metrics. We do not store or track your real-time physical location history.

C. Interaction & Analytics Data

  • We collect anonymized or pseudonymous product analytics to understand feature usage and improve user experience, via Mixpanel and Google Analytics 4.
  • For authenticated users, event properties may be linked to your user ID and subscription tier to help us troubleshoot issues and deliver personalized feature updates.

D. Local Data Stored in Your Browser

The following is stored directly in your browser's local extension storage:

  • Focus Pomodoro timer settings and task names
  • Site blocker rules and domain lists
  • To-do items
  • Custom bookmarks and theme preferences
  • Audio player settings

E. Financial & Payment Information

All payments and subscription management are processed securely by Dodo Payments. Themefy does not collect, process or store your credit card numbers, banking details or billing address on our servers.

2. Chrome Extension Permissions

Themefy requests specific browser extension permissions to operate core functions. Below is a breakdown of each one:

  • Storage (`storage`): local storage for your preferences and settings.
  • Alarms (`alarms`): schedules background tasks like 12-hour catalog syncs, midnight theme rotation, and focus timer countdown notifications.
  • Identity (`identity`): enables the Google OAuth sign-in flow directly inside the extension.
  • Web Navigation, optional (`webNavigation`): monitors top-level tab navigation during active Focus Mode sessions to detect when you visit a domain on your personal site blocker list, and redirects you to the focus block screen.
  • Notifications, optional (`notifications`): triggers alerts when timers finish.
  • Top Sites, optional (`topSites`): accesses your frequently visited websites strictly locally to populate the optional quick-links sidebar widget on your new tab page. Browsing history is never stored or transmitted.
  • Host permissions: allow communication with Themefy servers and power the site blocking functionality.

3. Third-Party Services

We partner with trusted third-party providers to power essential features. Each processes data according to its own privacy policy:

  • Supabase & Google: Authentication and profile storage; Sign in with Google. Privacy policy
  • Dodo Payments: Checkout and subscription billing processing. Privacy policy
  • Mixpanel & Google Analytics 4: Product analytics. Privacy policy

4. Security & Data Protection

All communications between the extension, our backend servers and third-party APIs use industry-standard HTTPS/TLS encryption. We never sell, rent or trade your personal information to third parties or advertising networks.

5. Policy Updates

We may update this Privacy Policy periodically to reflect new features, performance improvements or legal requirements. Any update will be published with a revised "Last updated" date at the top of this policy. We encourage you to review this policy from time to time.
